TIP: If you are having difficulty wrapping the sequin trim, you can wrap both sides individually.

TIP: For the last pieces it may help to cut the trim in half.

BONUS TIP: For the last piece you may want to cut your trim into two pieces. This will allow you to focus on one side at a time.

Runway Inspiration: Sequins

Sequins were all over the red carpet at the 2013 Oscar Awards

Naomi Watts wore a Gunmetal Armani Privé gown alongside her husband Liev Schreiber. Although the couple looked great, it’s hard to take your eyes off of Ms. Watts in that dress. Halle Berry’s Atelier Versace gown was on trend for spring with the striped detailing. Nicole Kidman’s L’Wren Scott mermaid gown had intricate detailing throughout the bodice. Stacey Keibler wore a Naeem Khan sequined dress paired with Lorraine Schwartz jewels. Jennifer Hudson’s Roberto Cavalli gown flattered the star’s new figure.

Editorial Inspiration

Vogue Japan’s Ready to Party editorial from their January 2013 issue definitely inspired us for our New Year’s outfits.  Although we are well into 2013, this editorial is going to be something we continuously go to for winter party ideas.  Florals, ruffles, and sequins are timeless go-to pieces and are going to be big in 2013.  It’s time to start raiding the M&J Trimming shelves in order to DIY some of these ourselves!

DIY Sequin Pants

We are massive fans of the all-sequin dress, but, like most females, they only get worn around the holiday times.  Here is a DIY with just enough sequins that can be worn all year round!

2-3 yds of Sequin trim

Fabric glue

1.  Fold your pants along its front seams and measure trim that will start under the belt loop, down the side seam, and to the bottom of the pants.  Add an inch to this measurement and cut.

2.  Begin by gluing the top of the trim below the belt loop area.

3.  Continue to glue the trim down the side hem of the pants.  Add glue to the back of the trim and press it down onto the pants.   Make sure that the trim is always aligned with the side hem.

4.  Any excess trim you have can be folded under the pant leg and glued, as depicted.

5.  Repeat for the second pant leg and follow the above steps.  And then you have created an amazing pair of pants for a night on the town or for your holiday parties!

DIY Inspiration: Sequins

Ever since we saw Gwyneth’s sequin pocket dress at the Met Gala, we’ve been inspired to use sequins in a chic and classy way. Clutches, pillows, bras – you can add sequins to basically anything to jazz it up. We have a ton of sequin trims in our store right now, and we can’t wait to start crafting!
