Toast the Host: DIY Jute and Lace Vase

It’s time to start thinking about hostess gifts for the holidays! Of course, we’ll be DIYing all of our hostess gifts, and we’ve been working on one that we absolutely adore. We made use of M&J trimming’s incredible selection of jute, paired it with some pretty lace, and created this lovely DIY vase. We love the mixture of the rough jute with the soft lace (and we think any hostess would love it as well). Follow our steps below to make it yourself, and check out our Toast the Host selection to get all your DIY gift supplies.

Supplies: scissors, 2 ft wide jute or burlap trim (ours is item #54116 and can be ordered at 1-800-9-MJTRIM), 2 ft lace trim, 1 yd jute cord, a plain cylindrical vase, strong glue

1. Wrap your wide jute trim around the vase, then cut it so the edges meet perfectly.

2. Cut the lace trim so it is the same length as the jute trim. Then use small drops of glue to gently glue it in place on top of the jute trim. The lace should be in the middle of the jute so there is still some jute showing at the top and bottom.

3. Draw a line of glue going vertically in the middle of the vase, then place the jute trim on top of it. Press down so the trim stays in place. Slowly wrap the rest of the jute and lace around the vase, adding lines of glue as you go along. Once you have wrapped it all the way around, add some more glue at the end, then press down both ends until dry.

4. Wrap the jute cord around the middle of the lace then tie it into a bow. It should stay on without glue, but you can add some glue for extra hold.5. Fill with fresh flowers and you’ve got a lovely, handmade hostess gift. (We’d recommend making one for yourself as well, because you won’t want to part with it!)
