Swarovski Increase Rhinestone Price

121

Some of you may have already heard the news.  For those who haven’t yet, due to production cost, Swarovski has decided to increase their price on flatback and hot-fix rhinestones with sew-on jewels to follow.  This has left many retailers with little choice, but to increase our price on rhinestones and sew-on jewels.  New prices are effective February 1st, 2009.  Therefore, it’s a good time to stock-up on rhinestones and sew-on jewels at the current price while supplies last.  All rhinestones will then shift to the new price on the 1st of February.

DIY Swarovski Rhinestone Table Setting

By Eleah

 tablesetting_blog

This week I embellished a segment of a table setting to show what a little bling might do to your dinner table.  I used size 12 and 16 rhinestones in Light Peach, Crystal, and Palace Green Opal.  For 1 fork, 1 knife, 1 napkin ring and 1 small candle holder it took about 7 packs of rhinestones in various sizes and colors.  The amount and size you need to do this for your own setting will depend on the amount of silver wear and other table accessories you plan to embellish.

Supplies:

Directions:

  1. Come up with a basic pattern of which you would like on your settings.  I suggest keeping it simple since there is not much surface to cover on something as small as a fork.  It is also a good idea to lay your rhinestones out unglued to make sure they will fit properly across the surface.
  2. Once your pattern is decided set the rhinestones to the side, flat side down for easier pick-up.  Pinch off a pea sized piece of wax and stick in onto the end of your wooden stick.
  3. Apply glue with your syringe in a small section (start on the straightest edge for best results) Pick up one rhinestone at a time by lightly touching the wax end of the wooden stick to the top of the stone. Place the stone onto the desired glue covered area.  The glue should pull the rhinestone from the wax but sometime a little nudge with your finger is helpful.  Continue this process until you have completed your design and repeat on the rest of your table settings.  The glue dry within a half hour of application but I suggest letting it sit a full 24 hours before actually using it.
  4. Don’t run your project through the dishwasher since the jets could possibly disrupt your design by loosening the stones.

*Remember, this project does not have to apply only to table settings.  Rhinestones can be added to a variety of home decorations. *

DIY Wired Ribbon Christmas Tree

By Dara

Okay, I’m a little early but early is better than late.  What am I talking about?  Well, I’m talking about getting ready for Christmas.  I’ve already kept my eyes open for gifts and decorations.  Besides purchasing decorations from department stores, I also like making them myself.  It’s one of the best time of the year to spend with family and work on a fun project.

This week, I decided to create a miniature Christmas tree out of wired ribbon.  This is really fun and it’s great to do as a family or teachers can use this for school projects also.

Materials: (1-800-965-8746)

Directions:

  1. Using the scissors cut 6 inches of the 1 1/2″ ribbon.  You’re going to need five pieces of this.  Then five pieces in 5 inches, five pieces in 4 inches, and five pieces in 3 inches.
  2. Once again using the scissors cut 6 inches of the 1″ ribbon.  You’re gong to need six pieces of this.  Then six pieces in 5 inches, six pieces in 4 inches, and 3 pieces in 3 inches.
  3. Now take the craft stick and place it into the styrofoam.  The styrofoam will be the base.
  4. Remember the 6″ of the 1 1/2″ ribbon you cut earlier?  There was five pieces.  Take the ribbon, add glue to 1/2″ of the ribbon on the edge and wrap it around the stick towards the bottom.  Do this with the rest of the ribbon.  It’s okay if you overlap the area that you already placed the ribbon.
  5. Once you’re done with those five pieces.  The next part is to do the same with the six pieces of the 1″ ribbon.  From then on, you pretty much just have to wrap the ribbons around the stick; switching between the 1″ and the 1 1/2″ ribbon.  Go from the largest cut ribbon to the smallest.  Such as from 6″ to 5″ to 4″ to 3″.
  6. Once you reach the top, you can glue the rhinestone button on as a star.
  7. Then start shapping the wired ribbon and decorate using the rhinestones, pearls, nailheads and gem-tac glue.
  8. After you’re finish, wrap the base with the velvet ribbon and you’re done.

A Touch of Gray (DIY Bridal Shoe Clip)

By Kristin

The hottest trend it seems lately is that brides are heading towards shades of gray for the new accent color.  They are incorporating into everything ranging from the invites to the wedding dress itself!  I decided to create a simple pair of shoe clips done in this hot new shade to show how versatile it can be.

Shoe clips were at their most popular during the Victorian era, they were used to dress up your shoes, but could also be clipped to hats, scarves, and bags.  I’m a huge fan of shoe clips, I usually make my own using mostly buttons and ribbons, but I do have a few vintage pairs too.  Why not try to make a pair today, you’ll quickly see how addictive it is to own a ‘new’ pair of shoes!

Materials Used:

Instructions:

  1. You will need 2 pieces of ribbon measuring 8 inches and two measuring 3 inches.
  2. Fold the ends of the 8″ ribbon towards the middle and glue in place with Unique Stitch Glue, then take the 3″ piece and fold over the ends about ¼” and glue in place.  Wrap the small 3″ piece around the center of the long folded piece to cover the seam, glue in place.
  3. Take your needle and thread and sew the shoe clip to the back of the ribbon.  You can use E6000 as well, but I find that the thread holds up better over time.
  4. Take your rhinestone button and clip off the shank back (the small metal loop on the back).  Clip it as close to the back of the button as you can, a little extra remaining is okay, so long as the button lays flat.
  5. Glue your button to the middle of the front of the ribbon.
  6. Let everything dry overnight.
  7. Clip on and look gorgeous!

Bridal Rhinestone Flip Flops

By Kristin

Getting married at the beach?  No?  Well, maybe you want a comfortable pair of shoes for the reception.  Flip flops are the perfect answer!  They’re cheap and can be decorated to match your dress very easily.  I was able to pick up a pair at the local dollar store and decorate them in only about 45 minutes.  M&J Trimming has this great glue called Flip Flop Glue (item # 37866).  It’s made so that your decorations won’t fall off during regular wear and tear.  You can decorate your flip flops with buttons, ribbons, sequins, or my personal favorite… rhinestones!  I decorated my pair in Light Rose and Crystal AB.  Why not try decorating a pair for your own big day, as a gift for the bride or maybe for your bridesmaids and flower girl.  It’s a fun project and you will be able to wear them after the wedding during your honeymoon, or for a day out on the town.
