DIY Swarovski Sew-on Stone Bracelet

By Dara

bracelet

The sun is quite hot today, which also mean its still summer.  We have a long way to go before it starts getting cold again.  Of course summer time usually means a little less fabric, more skin and more accessories.  I know that the recession has everyone on a budget, but it doesn’t necessarily mean looking fashionably attractive has to also be on a budget.  Just turn to DIY projects and you’ll notice that making things on your own can turn out just as great as a finished piece from the department stores.

This week, we’re going to create and design our own Swarovski bracelet.  To make the bracelet, we’ll be using the Swarovski sew-on stone collection.  Here’s the list of the materials and instructions.

Materials:

Instructions:

  1. Take the Swarovski sew-on stones and lay them on top of the suede patch.  Lay them according to the design you like.
  2. After you finished the design, pick up one stone from the pattern and add glue to the back.  Don’t add too much or the glue will end up showing.
  3. Lay the stone back down onto the pattern.  Repeat this with all the stones.
  4. Let it to dry for a bout 5 minutes.  After it’s dry, use the scissors and trim the suede.  Follow the pattern you designed.
  5. Now add a dab of glue onto the back side of the patch, and lay the patch on top of the 1/8” suede tape.  Remember to lay it on the center of the tape.
  6. You’re all done.

DIY Swarovski and Chain Necklace

By Roseann

Jewelry1

Every girl can use a little sparkle in her life, and thanks to M&J’s selection of Swarovski rhinestones and assortment of sew on jewels and pendants, it’s easy and affordable. For $25 I created a piece that could easily retail for $60 or more. I used 1 twisted Swarovski sew on jewel (#40198), and two different pear shaped Swarovski pendants (#38394 in Vitrail, and #41916 in golden shadow) available by calling 1-800-9-mjtrim. I used simple jump rings to attach the stones to the chain. The piece was left long, so it fits easily over the head. The look is simple and chic, and since it can be worn with jeans or cocktail dress it is also versatile. Please check out our Swarvski section online and create a gem of your own.

DIY Multi-facet Swarovski Jewel Bracelet

By Milton

blog_main13

People often ask me what’s my advice when it comes to fashion.  My reply is “Accessorize, accessorize and accessorize some more”.  Accessories can really help enhance what you’re wearing; unless you’re already wearing something that sparkles all on its own.  Some examples would be a sequin dress or an overly embellished jewel dress.

The Swarovski bracelet I made today would look great with an outfit that doesn’t have any embellishments on it.  Like your “Little Black” dress.  So let’s get started.

 Materials:

 Instructions:

  1. Lay out your pattern.  As you can see, my pattern switches between the rectangle and oval jewels.
  2. Carefully using the pliers open and add a jump ring to the circle end of the closure.
  3. Add the rectangle jewel to the jump ring.
  4. After that, add another jump ring and add the oval jewel to the jump ring.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you run out of jewels.
  6. At the end of the pattern, add five jump rings and then add the long end of the closure.
  7. Now you’re bracelet is ready to be worn.

DIY Rhinestone Belt

belt

Looking for an easy way to jazz up that little black dress in your closet?  A simple belt with an exquisite buckle makes a great addition to a fashion classic.  Stick to a black belt, you do not want to draw too much attention to the waist.

To get the look you will need

 Instructions:

  1. Measure your waist.  This belt has no adjustment so don’t cheat or you will be holding your tummy in all evening.
  2. Add one inch to this measurement and cut ribbon at this length.
  3. Create ½” pleat at the top of the ribbon and press.  Ideally you want the lines to create an up right V, this is a much more youthful look.
  4. Thread your ribbon through the back of your buckle, stop at 1″ and fold over.
  5. Hand stitch the tab you’ve just created down to the ribbon as close the bar as possible.
  6. Trim off excess, if you own pinking sheers these are ideal to use.  If not a straight cut is fine.
  7. Enjoy!

Halloween Ribbon Candy Basket

By Eleah

This week I threw together a cute little basket for handing out Halloween candy.  The supplies are simple and it only takes a few minutes to make.

Supplies:

Directions:

  1. Spray a couple coats of polyurethane on all surfaces of the basket.  Let dry for 15-30 minutes between coats.  This step is optional, I just like the way it glosses the surface of a wooden basket.
  2. Line the basket with fabric.  Keep raw edges exposed or fold under and seam with craft glue.  No need to bother hemming with the machine since this is really just a seasonal project.
  3. Tie your piece of wire edge Halloween print ribbon in a bow + glue to the back center of the rim of the basket (onto the fabric of course).  Shape the arms + loops of the bow as desired.
  4. Cut the polka dot grosgrain ribbon into 8 inch segments and tie all of them into bows.  Along the remaining blank fabric covered rib of the basket, glue each bow using the sobo craft glue.
  5. Fill with candy and you’re done.

Crochet Appliques

By Dara

Let’s admit it, the popularity of crochet has been around for decades and it’s only growing everyday.  Since Fall is just around the corner, I’ve been seeing more and more women doing some crochet work on the bus, subway and even during their lunch break.  I do a little crochet work also.  Mostly baby blankets  and  scarves as gifts for friends and family.  It beats laying around doing nothing when I’m at home.

Anyways, I wrote a blog a few months back called “Creativity Mixed In A Blender“.  In that blog, I had a few pictures of some crochet appliques that M&J Trimming does not have online.  So for this blog, I wanted to show everyone a few more crochet appliques that are not listed online.  However, you can order them by calling customer service at 1.800.9.MJTRIM.  Keep in mind that customer service is only available from 9am to 6pm EST and that’s from Monday to Friday.

Gossip Girl (Serena’s Ribbon Headband)

By Milton

In Gossip Girl’s “Summer, Kind of WOnderful” episode for the second season, Serena van der Woodsen wore a silver ribbon as a headband to the white party.  One option to get this look is by using a metallic silver mesh ribbon.  I used about 5 yards and just wrapped multiple layers and then tied a knot in the back.  You can call 1.800.9.MJTRIM and ask for item number 36876.  It comes in 18 different colors.  I used the size 6mm in white.
