Want to step up your gift wrapping game? Well, to do that you need to master the classic bow. Watch the video below and you’ll be an expert in no time. To make sure you get the best possible results follow these tips:

• Use a ribbon that has some stiffness if you want a nice structured bow that holds its own. If you want something softer and almost drape-y, use a silk satin ribbon.

• Use a double faced ribbon so you don’t have to worry about a right and wrong side.

• Use a sharp pair of scissors to avoid a frayed edge.

Customized Stockings – 2 Ways!

Tis the season to be silly, fa la la la la. Get silly by customizing your stockings this year with cute patches that show off your unique personality or spell out your name with some chenille patches. Patches have been hot hot hot for the last few seasons and we don’t see why they can’t make their way on to our festive decor as well. They make for awesome stocking stuffers too. These two easy DIYs will have you ready for the holidays in no time. Santa won’t be able to stuff coal down these stockings!

DIY: Holiday Greeting Card

Love is a present you don’t have to wrap but you can always express it with a card. To make it extra special, make it yourself! We’ve come up with three easy tutorials for cute holiday cards that your loved ones will swoon over.

RIBBON STOCKINGS

What you’ll need:

Card stock paper

Printable artwork (click to download)

Ribbon (3 types)

X-acto knife

Tape

1.Print the provided artwork on the card stock. Then with the X-acto knife, carefully cut the inside of the stocking out.

2. Cut each ribbon into a 2″ piece. You should have three different pieces in the end. Make sure you’ve selected ribbon that’s wider than 1.5″.

dsc_08003. Tape the three pieces behind each cut-out in the card, making sure it’s fully covered.

4. Paste another piece of card stock on the inside for a clean finished look.

And you’re done!

 

MINIMALIST TREE:

Card stock

Printable artwork (click to download)

Colorful buttons

Glue

BUTTON WREATH:

Green and red buttons

DIY: Holiday Gift Wrapping

Sometimes, it’s not only about what’s on the inside that counts! Taking time to wrap a gift shows care, and makes the gift recipient even more appreciative of the effort. If you’re looking to upgrade your gifting game, check out these three fun ways to wrap your holiday presents!

What You’ll Need:

DSC_02891- Place the largest velvet ribbon going across the front. Flip over and glue the two pieces together when they meet.

DSC_02922- Flip box over, and place the 36mm velvet ribbon on top of the larget velvet you just pout down. Flip over and glue down.

DSC_02993- Take a piece of the 36mm ribbon and place under the two velvet ribbons you placed down. Create a bow.

DSC_03024- Take a piece of your 50mm velvet and create a 4 inch. motif. Glue end to the back of the ribbon. Place aside.

 

DSC_03055- Repeat step 4 but with 36mm velvet and 2 inch. motif.

DSC_03116- Take your 22mm ribbon and place the tassel threw it.

DSC_03137- Take the 50mm velvet motif and 36mm velvet motif and place together with the smaller one on top.

DSC_03168- Lay the 22m velvet and tassel combo across the motif and glue on the back. Place in the center of the gift.

What You’ll Need:

1- Place velvet ribbon across and glue end on the back.

DSC_03192- Place a piece of grosgrain ribbon an each side of the velvet  and glue on back.

DSC_03273- Take the silk ribbon an create a bow. Create another bow by adding another piece of silk ribbon.

What You’ll Need:

TapeDSC_03281- Place velvet ribbon across box and glue on the back.

DSC_03322- Take a piece of velvet ribbon and place the fur pom pom threw. Tie a knot so the fur pompom does not slide off.

DSC_03441- Create a hole with your hold puncher at the end of each ribbon. Make the tags as long as you like.

Uses for Wrapping Paper

The moment after the presents have been unwrapped, reality sets in. You have a living room full of paper scraps that will undoubtedly end up in the garbage. Not this year! Reuse Holiday Ribbon

The presents have been wrapped, the cookies have been iced, and the seasonal DIYs are done. Well..almost. Before you throw out that holiday ribbon that’s wrapping your present, give it another glance. Ribbon is like DIY platinum. It’s a great resource to DIY with! Trust us on this one. We went all the way back into the M&J Archives and dug up some of our favorite ways to use ribbon, along with updated seasonal suggestions!

Ribbon and Applique Necklace from M&J Trimming

Use a beautiful solid-colored ribbon to show off some jewels. This DIY would be easy to recreate with some of our rhinestone buttons or appliques!

Curtain Tieback from M&J Trimming

If you’re left with a lot of the same seasonal ribbon, use it to spruce up your winter decor! Gold or rich velvet ribbons would look great against a dark winter curtain. Need a little more hold for heavier curtains? Secure the curtain with a thick craft wire first, then wrap the ribbon around it and tie a beautiful bow!

DIY: Bejeweled Holiday Clutch

New Year’s Eve is the time for glitz and glam, and this year we’re pulling out all of the stops with a DIY accessory that’s sure to garner some attention. We’re making a bejeweled golden Holiday Clutch that’s perfect for that VIP New Year’s Eve party!

Bejeweled Holiday Clutch from M&J Trimming

What You’ll Need:

Antiqued 12mm X 10mm Rectangle With Setting

Antiqued 10MM X 6MM Pear With Setting

10mm X 5mm Navette Rhinestone with Setting 

10mm X 6mm Pear Rhinestone with Setting

10mm X 8mm Swarovski Crystal Oval Rhinestone with Setting

8mm X 6mm Oval Rhinestone with Setting

2” Large Rhinestone Leaf Trim

Glue

Glue Applicator Syringe

Scissors

Clutch

Cutting Rhinestone Trim M&J Trimming

1. Cut three sets of two leaves and one circle out of the rhinestone trim.

2. Glue down each set so that they are mirroring each other. TIP: Use the applicator syringe so the glue does not get messy.

3. Create a colorful pattern with your sew-ons. Make sure that the pattern on one side matches the one on the other.

4. Glue the sew-ons down using that same syringe.

5. Allow the glue to dry for 24 hours.
