This week we’re taking a cue from the nerdy-chic trend that tends to pop up around fall when school is in session! If you’ve ever had a boring sweater that needed a subtle upgrade, this DIY is for you! We’ve taken regular elbow patches that were already super-chic, and updated them with a fun geometric print. You can use this tutorial to create all different styles of elbow patches too! Try a floral stencil for something a little more feminine or paisley for a look that’s pretty and pretty!
What You’ll Need:
Sweater
Stencil
X-acto knife
Ruler
White pencil
Needle and Thread
1. Turn your suede patches over so that side you want to show on the sweater is facing downward, and draw an oval circle by the edge of the patch to prevent excess cutting.
2. Stencil on the design with your white pencil, and make sure to not stencil in anything past the white oval circle you made before.
3. Carefully cut out the shapes you created with your knife.
4. Figure out where your elbows would be placed in your sweater. Sew on each patch in that elbow area.
This is genius! I’ve been wanting to add something to my old plain sweaters that’ll make them feel fresh again. I’ll definitely be making these this weekend!
Love this!
I’ve always wanted one of these sweaters, didn’t realize how easy it was to make. Thanks for the info!
