We’ve all been there, you use a cord or ribbon to tie a bow, and the next thing you know your beautiful bow is just a bundle of threads. If you’ve dealt with fraying ribbon, and you want to know how to stop your ribbons in their tracks, you are not alone. In fact, it is one of the most-asked questions we get at M&J! There are a couple of ways to keep your trims intact.
1. It’s all about the cut. Cutting ribbon in an inverted “V” shape doesn’t only look great, it also keeps the ribbon from unraveling.
2. When working with twisted cord, always tape the pieces that you’re going to cut. We will often do this in the store because without taping the ends, the cord will untwist and become almost impossible to work with.
3. Use glue or clear nail polish on the very ends of the ribbon to glue the threads down.
4. Singe the ends of the ribbon just a little bit. The ends of the ribbon with start to bead up the slightest bit, and won’t unravel.
Great advice for a very common problem. The clear nail polish trick is brilliant!
I use ribbon often and these tips are fabulous. I’ve found that Fray Check (available at most craft stores) does wonders as well! Thanks for sharing!
