DIY: Hanging Metal Planter

Earth Day is one of our favorite holidays because, as big fans of the DIY movement, we LOVE recycling and reusing to make chic projects while also reducing our carbon footprint.  This Earth Day we decided to use our trims to make a recycled DIY that serves a very green purpose! You’ll work with a recycled can, jazz it up with natural jute trims, and make it a home for beautiful plant or flower!

Metal Planter DIY Materials

What You’ll Need:

1 Clean Empty Soup Can

Small Tubular Jute

29mm Jute Knit Braid

23mm Jute Braid

1” Jute Braid

E6000

Scissors

Hole Punch

Hole Punching Metal Can1. Using the hole punch, punch a hole on each side of the can. Make sure the hole is not too high. It should be half an inch below the rim.

Running Jute Braid Through Can2. Take your tube jute and place it through the holes on each side. Tie a knot at the end so that the jute does not fall through the hole.

Wrapping Jute Around Can3. Wrap the jute around the can, and cut it so that the edges just meet.

Gluing Can4. Place E6000 on the can where you want your jute to be, and glue it in place.

Gluing Jute Trim to Metal Can5. Repeat with other types of jute if you like. We added two more strips in different patterns.

Metal Hanging Planter DIY

Voila! You have an Earth Day treasure that not only LOOKS beautiful, but is great for the environment. Depending on the plant you use, it can also help filter the air! Put bamboo, peace lily, or aloe in your pot and you’ll be breathing easy in no time.

This year we are giving a portion of our Earth Day sales to Earthworksa nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting communities and the environment from the impacts of irresponsible mineral and energy development while seeking sustainable solutions.
